We are delighted to announce that the Walton Community Library has re-opened and is now fully operational. Our team of volunteers have been working hard for months to be sure we were ready and were duly rewarded when we opened on 1st December.
We have a marvellous new home at Charles Waterton House. It is a purpose built space and is marvellously light and airy. With new armchairs there is ample space to relax. Our book stock is constantly updated and the children’s section is a delight. We have a brand new suite of computers available for the public to use free of charge and new photocopying facilities as well.
Having been closed for some two years Walton’s Community Library will be developing and expanding the range of our associated activities - from Chess Club, Wine appreciation group, book club, regular monthly talks as well as the cycling and nordic walk groups. Music is catered for through the Walton Singers and the Ukulele band. Class groups from Walton Primary Academy are planning to make weekly visits.
We are open 6 days a week 10.00-16.00 each weekday and on Saturday mornings from 10.00-13.00.
There is a fully equipped kitchen adjoining the library and we are are hopeful that, before too long, a cafe will be opened providing a range of drinks and light meals for those using the library.
The new library is without doubt a fabulous facility for Walton and one of which the whole community can be proud. For this we must thank Engie Regeneration who have worked with us throughout the Covid-19 restricted period to bring this project to fruition.
We must also thank our Parish Council, Wakefield MDC and Jon Trickett MP for their support.
